Singapore English Language Study Tour 2024
After the successful trip last year, we are thrilled to announce that 15 students from grades F.1-5 participated in the Singapore English Language Study Tour once again. Organized by our school's English department, the tour took place from June 24th to June 29th this year. The main objective of the study tour was to promote awareness of three Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Goal 9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), and Climate Action (Goal 13).
During the tour, the students had the opportunity to visit various locations. They participated in a guided tour of the Sustainable Singapore Gallery and attended a physics lesson at the Science Centre, where they gained valuable insights into these goals.
In addition to these educational visits, the students also explored some of Singapore's most popular tourist attractions, including the Merlion, Gardens by the Bay, Little India, and Chinatown. This allowed them to experience the rich history, diverse cultures, and biodiversity of Singapore. They also visited the historic and significant Catholic church, Novena Church, Church of St. Alphonsus, in Singapore. What’s more, the students enjoyed a relaxing and fun-filled day at Santosa, where they visited Universal Studios and experienced the thrill of the Skyline Luge.
We are honored to have had the opportunity to meet with two local sister schools, St. Joseph's Institution and North Vista Secondary School, once again. Our students were paired with Singaporean students as buddies, and the teachers from St. Joseph's Institution graciously arranged for our students to attend their classrooms. Our students also presented the relationship between our school and the Sustainable Development Goals to their counterparts. We would like to express our gratitude to the teachers from North Vista Secondary School for organizing a narrative photography workshop. Before the trip, students from both schools attended an online lesson together to learn the basic techniques of narrative photography. During the trip, students had a half-day tour on the exotic island of Pulau Ubin in Singapore, where they had the opportunity to apply the skills they had acquired and capture captivating photos for creating a multimodal text.
